Schizoaffective Disorder

Social: Stressful life events, limited support systems

Symptoms & Diagnosis (Mnemonic: SAD MAP)
- S - Schizophrenic symptoms (delusions, hallucinations, etc.)
- A - Affective episode (manic/depressive) required
- D - Duration: Mood symptoms present for most of illness
- M - Mood symptoms with psychosis for majority
- A - Absence of mood symptoms for ≥2 weeks with psychosis
- P - Psychosis not substance-induced
Treatment
- Combination therapy: mood stabilizers + antipsychotics
- Psychotherapy, social skills training
- Family-focused therapy and relapse prevention
